Kyushu Kilns & Flowers
Starts in Hakata. Ends in Kagoshima.
Kyushu is a land of natural beauty, rich history, and traditional craftsmanship. The southernmost of Japan’s main islands, it is a paradise for pottery lovers, home to some of the country’s most important kiln sites and pottery villages. On this tour, we visit a carefully selected collection of villages that showcase the diversity and beauty of Japanese ceramics. Watch master craftspeople at work, step inside local potters’ studios, and gain a deeper understanding of the traditions that have shaped Japanese pottery for centuries.
Known as Japan’s onsen paradise, Kyushu also offers a wealth of unique cultural experiences. Relax in natural hot springs, enjoy a tea experience in Chiran, one of Japan’s finest green tea-producing regions, and try your hand at designing your own Satsuma ware. Along the way, we visit archaeological sites and museums that give insight into Japan’s history, including the Chiran Peace Museum and the Amakusa Christian Museum.
This fully guided group tour is ideal for pottery enthusiasts and travellers who enjoy exploring beyond the usual tourist routes. We travel by private vehicle throughout the tour with one Shinkansen ride.
